DEERFIELD — Fire crews put out a house fire Thursday night at 430 Susan Lane. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters allege the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, said Deerfield Fire Department Batallion Chief Jim Bednarz. Despite frigid temperatures, crews were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly, he added.
The fire is under investigation, Bednarz said, noting the cause is uncertain at this time.
The fire mainly destroyed parts of the second floor, Bednarz said. It did not reach the first floor.
Firefighters stayed on the scene for more than two hours making sure all hotspots would not flare up.
Five people in the home at the time were able to escape unharmed, Bednarz said. Occupants of the home called the fire department, he confirmed.
Besides the Deerfield Fire Department, units were called in from a few surrounding communities.
