WAUKEGAN — A Waukegan High School teacher has been charged with possession of child pornography and suspended from his teaching duties.
The arrest of the male teacher from the District 60 Brookside Campus stemming from alleged illicit use of the Internet at his Gurnee home, according to a school spokesman. He was arrested Tuesday by Gurnee police.
The bilingual teacher has worked for District 60 since August 2006, and has been a teacher in the district since fall 2007.
Representatives from the district’s Information Technology Department are conducting a search for illicit material on all district-owned computers on which this employee has had access. An initial search by authorities on his district-issued tablet yielded negative results.
“These alleged, illicit actions are reprehensible, and will not be tolerated, whether they occur in our schools, or away,” said District 60 Superintendent Donaldo Batiste. “A parent should not have to worry about the staff in the school where they send their child. I promise that we will continue to do everything in our power to weed out these individuals and maintain the integrity of a safe and secure environment for our students.”
The spokesman said while the investigation and legal process continue, District 60 will not make further comments about the teacher’s arrest.
