Sabonjian fund-raiser: Waukegan Mayor Robert Sabonjian will hold a campaign fund-raiser March 2 at Big Ed’s Barbecue, 30 N. Genesee St., from 4 to 6 p.m. Enjoy jazz music and a sampling of Ed’s famous cuisine. Entry donation will be $20 per person with a cash bar. Sabonjian kicked off his re-election campaign Feb. 23 at the Original Parlor, Ice Cream Cafe and Store, 32 N. Genesee St.
Bluthardt fund-raiser: Brent Bluthardt, candidate for Antioch Township trustee, will hold a “Night at the Lodge” fund-raiser to be held March 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $20 per person and includes draft beer, wine and appetizers. Curran award: Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran has received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award from the Department of Defense for supporting Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Julie Morris. The ESGR recognizes employers who go above and beyond what the law requires in supporting National Guardsmen and Reservists who work for them in their civilian lives. Curran was nominated by Morris, a corrections sergeant, for consistently accommodating the duty schedules of Morris and 10 other deputies and corrections officers who work for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Michael Peck, superintendent for the Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County, and Morris presented the recently award to the sheriff.
