Fund-raiser: The Irina Makkai Classical Ballet & Dance School announced the launch of its Ballet Makkai Foundation that will offer programs, scholarships and classes that may otherwise not be exposed to the art of dance, and much more. The public is invited to support this new cause at the “Raising the Barre” fund-raiser Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at The Art Center, 1957 Sheridan Road. Performances by the Ballet Makkai Youth Company at 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. Attendees will hear about the mission of the Foundation from the mother and daughter dance duo, Irina Makkai and Lilla Makkai Daniels. Lake Villa
Fund-raiser: The Lake Villa Township Lions Club will hold its inaugural adult Spelling Bee Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at Lakes High School, 1600 Eagle Way. Team check-in begins at 6 p.m. and practice round begins at 6:30 p.m. Companies, organizations and adult individuals are invited to enter a 3-person team to fund local Lake Villa Township Lions Club scholarships. There will be local celebrity judges and a timekeeper. The winning team will win a traveling trophy and a free pizza party.
