A longtime former Waukegan resident, Earlene Stackhouse French, 82, died July 5 in a vehicle crash in Arkansas.
French, a native of Clarksdale, Miss., who moved back to the state after retiring from Anchor Swan Corp. in Libertyville, was returning from a family gathering held July 4 in Waukegan when, according to news reports, she lost control of her 2006 Chevy pickup truck and crashed into a tree.
The single-vehicle accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. as French was driving south on Interstate 55 near the northeastern Arkansas town Tyronza in Mississippi County. Arkansas State Police said French’s truck burst into flames after impact. One passenger, Z.P. Wallace, 78, of Waukegan, was injured and is still hospitalized.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, 2401 Argonne Drive, North Chicago. French is survived by 17 children, many who live in Lake County.
