Lake Villa Police put out a missing person notice for Nicholas Steward, 33, this weekend after he failed to return home from work on Friday, Sept. 20.
Police said he was last seen driving a white 2008 Saturn with the license plate 563-7543. The Illinois Tollway Authority told police the vehicle did go through the northbound Touhy Avenue Toll Plaza northbound on I-294 at 5:30 p.m., and he also had a telephone conversation with his employer at about the same time.
At 10:28 p.m., his cellphone was detected in the area of the 2700 block of South River Road near Des Plaines. Then the phone was turned off.
Steward’s wife reported him missing. There is no evidence of foul play.
Childhood friend Kristin Vole, 30, of Vernon Hills said they went to Sunday school together at St. Mary of Vernon in Vernon Hills. She and other friends took the advice of a police officer, who is a friend of Steward’s, and they checked all the exits looking for his car starting at his place of employment in Wood Dale where he worked as a machinist.
“We just want to keep it up on social media and the news outlets in case someone saw something,” she said. They have also started putting posters in various places, including where she works at Ernie’s Shell Gas Station on Route 21 near Lincolnshire.
The case remains a missing person investigation and police are asking anyone with information to call their office at (847) 356-6106.
