Avon Township officials are seeking a state grant to ease flooding in an area off Fairfield Road, just east of Long Lake.
Highway Commissioner Tom Brust will apply for the funding under the Illinois Community Development Block Grant disaster recovery program to support flood relief at the intersection of Luther Avenue and Nielson Drive and along Norelius Avenue between Nielson Drive and Fairfield Road.
The proposed project is estimated to cost $430,416.25, and the grant should cover that amount.
Officials said that area floods because of an inadequate drainage outlet. The proposed remedy includes disconnecting the storm sewer at the Luther Avenue and Nielson Drive intersection and installing 640 feet of new l8-inch storm sewer at Nielson Drive. Discharge from the storm sewer will be directed to a new swale. Also, an inlet that drains directly into Long Lake will be retrofitted with a catch basin with an oil-water-debris separator, and an anti-microbial and hydrocarbon absorbent fabric.
Public comment will be accepted through Jan. 24. Comments should be sent to Brust at 389 W. Main St., Hainesville, IL 60073; or call (847) 546-7480
