Two Waukegan firefighters suffered heat-related injuries battling a blaze that destroyed one home and heavily damaged on Stonegate Road on Thursday night.
The blaze began about 7 p.m. in the garage of a two-story home in the 3500 block of Stonegate Road, according to Waukegan Fire Battalion Chief Dan Wright.
Flames spread from the garage to the rest of the home and to a house next door, Wright said.
A second alarm was called about 8 p.m. and fire crews remained on scene until about 10 p.m. to extinguish the flames and take care of hot spots, according to Wright. The home where the blaze began was destroyed. The second home sustained heavy damage, Wright said.
A total of 10 people from the two houses were displaced, Wright said. All 10 people were out of the house by the time fire crews arrived and no one was injured.
Two firefighters were taken to Vista East Medical Center in Wauekgan with minor injuries from the heat, Wright said.
The fire has been ruled an accident, according to Wright.
