WAUKEGAN — The process of adding 116 classrooms to 12 Waukegan District 60 school buildings will ramp up this week with meetings held at various schools to discuss design concepts.
Also, a public meeting to review the overall status of the $37 million project has been scheduled for Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in Waukegan High School’s Trapp Auditorium, 2325 Brookside Ave.
The first of this week’s series of meetings at Lincoln Center will be held Monday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon, and will focus on improvements to Carman-Buckner and Clearview schools.
The remaining schedule includes Greenwood and Hyde Park, Monday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.; Glen Flora and North, Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon; Washington and Whittier, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon; McCall and Little Fort, Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon; and Glenwood and Oakdale, Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.
A notification issued last week by District 60 officials stated that while a majority of a quorum of Board of Education members might be in attendance at the meetings, no official action will be taken by the board or any of its members.
At the Sept. 28 meeting, officials from Fanning Howey, an Ohio-based firm that has been contracted to perform architectural, engineering, design and planning services for the construction, are scheduled to provide an overview of the project and a preview of how it will proceed.
The renovations are being funded through the $31 billion “Illinois Jobs Now!” capital program, which is geared toward financing infrastructure improvements.
