Scott Drury, who had been running for Lake County state’s attorney, said Tuesday he is a candidate in the 2012 Democratic primary for state representative in the 58th House District,
State Rep. Karen May said earlier she is not seeking re-election next year.
“When Rep. May announced she was not running for re-election, several members of the community encouraged me to run for the seat,” said Drury. “After giving the idea a lot of thought and discussing it with my family, I decided to run for state representative. We need to ensure this district is represented by an independent voice who will work with Democrats, Republicans and independents to fight for fiscal reform and jobs, encourage business growth, strengthen our children’s education, and protect our neighborhoods and families.”
Drury, of Highwood, is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois who served more than seven years.
“A major reason I am running for this office is because I am fed up with the condition of our state,” stated Drury.
The new 58th District will include all or portions of Bannockburn, Deerfield, Glencoe, Highland Park, Highwood, Knollwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Northbrook, North Chicago and Riverwoods.
