FOX LAKE — A 40-year-old Fox Lake man is being held on $50,000 bond in Lake County jail after he was arrested for beating a man at Lakefront Park in Fox Lake.
Valhalla Johnson of 259 E. Grand Ave., was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery in a public space, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated assault. He had a knife but did not use it and police recovered the weapon.
According to police, Johnson was fishing at the park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., around 7:45 p.m., just before the park was set to close at dusk.
At some point another man, Christopher Wilson, 58, who lives a little over a mile away in the Eagle Point subdivision walked up and said something to Johnson.
That statement led to an argument and that’s when Johnson attacked, allegedly hitting the victim with a stick, possibly a cane, until the victim fell onto the ground.
Wilson was taken by ambulance to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. His condition was not available from the hospital.
