The old Masonic Temple in downtown Waukegan has been the target for vandals and trespassers within the last year, but the owners refused to file a report fearing retaliation.
But apparently, after having a string of acts of vandalism in October at 220 N. Sheridan Road, the owners called police.
On Oct. 19 around 5:30 p.m., an officer conducting surveillance on the residence observed three individuals scaling the building and gaining entry to the building.
All three suspects were caught. They gave voluntary statements as to their involvement in the crime.
Matthew Garcia, 18, of the 1700 block of Chestnut Street, Waukegan, was charged with two counts of residential burglary and was held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bond. Shane Miller, 20, of the 1600 block of Wilson Court, Zion, was charged with criminal trespass to residence and Leah Ohlrich, 18, also of the 1600 block of Wilson Court, Zion, was also charged with criminal trespass to residence. Both were released on bond.
