Voter guide: Voters who visit LakeCountyClerk.info can view the Voter Information Guide for the March 20 general primary election. A printed version of the guide will be delivered in local newspapers as early as Feb. 23. Additional copies will be available soon at many Lake County libraries, municipalities, and park district offices. The guide includes a complete listing of all candidates and public questions appearing on the March ballot. Election Day voting sites with addresses are listed by township and precinct. A comprehensive directory of all early voting sites, including dates, hours, addresses and phone numbers, is published on the back cover of the guide. “The guide is popular with voters,” said county Clerk Willard Helander. “Lake County voters watch for it because it provides a complete list of candidates throughout the county, and voters can take it into the voting booth as a reference tool.” She said the guide also addresses many commonly asked questions and dispels misconceptions such as the urban legend that absentee ballots are “only counted in close contests.” All absentee ballots postmarked by the day before the election and received by the 14th day after are processed by judges of the two parties, Helander noted.
Candidates’ forum: A sustainability forum with Grayslake area and 10th Congressional District candidates presented by Incinerator-Free Lake County will be held Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Byron Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Road, Grayslake. Current elected officials who are running for re-election will be participating in round tables in the same evening. The first one will showcase local elected officials in the Grayslake area; the second features candidates for the newly redistricted 10th Congressional District. The event is open to the public and a fund-raiser for Incinerator-Free Lake County. Details, (847) 903-3565
Coffelt endorses: Retiring Circuit Court Clerk Sally Coffelt has endorsed Republican Keith Brin to succeed her in the office. “Keith Brin has been learning the office of the circuit court clerk for the past three years and the voters of Lake County now have a decided advantage in having an experienced candidate running for this very important office,” Coffelt said. Brin, of Highland Park, chief deputy in the office, has also been endorsed by Sheriff Mark Curran, county Clerk Willard Helander, county Treasurer Robert Skidmore and Lake County Regional Superintendant of Schools Roycealee Wood. In addition, GOP organizations in Cuba, Libertyville and Wauconda townships have endorsed him.
