The ballot has been set for the March 20 primary election and one surprise is longtime Lake County Board member Angelo Kyle chose not to run.
Kyle, the County Board member from District 12 elected in 1990, was put between a rock and a hard place when the new district maps were drawn and he was put in the same district as fellow Democrat Audrey Nixon of North Chicago.
“I certainly would never run against her. I could never fathom running against her because she was my mentor when I first got on the board. She groomed me,” he said.
“I have some other things going, some other opportunities,” said Kyle, adding that his consulting firm TempTech Professional Services will be working with Integrys, a utility holding company.
“Life is good and things happen for a reason. Sometimes God has a plan you don’t realize because you got too complacent,” he said.
Cynthia Pruim Haran of Round Lake filed as a Democrat for the Lake County Circuit Court Clerk position and she will face the winner of the Republican primary between Gerald Dietz of Round Lake and Keith Brin of Highland Park. Lake County Circuit Court Clerk Sally Coffelt is retiring.
For coroner, there are two Democrats — Thomas Rudd of Lake Forest and incumbent Artis Yancey of Waukegan — and two Republican candidates. Steve Newton will now be challenged by Howard Cooper of Gurnee in the Republican primary.
Incumbent Lake County Recorder Mary Ellen Vanderventer is unchallenged in her primary, and there are two Republicans — Marty Blumenthal of Highland Park and Bob Bednar of Mundelein — vying to challenge her in the general election next year.
In the state’s attorney’s race, on the Republican ballot are Mike Nerheim, Louise Hayes and Bryan Winter, and the Democrats have Karen Boyd Williams, Reginald Mathews and Chris Kennedy. Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Waller is retiring.
The breakdown for the Lake County Board and North Shore Sanitary District contests are:
