Conference: The free annual Man Up Male Student Success Conference will be held Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College, 19351 W. Washington St. The keynote speaker will be Carlos Ojeda Jr., a successful activist, poet, speaker, educator and entrepreneur. The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute calls him one of the most dynamic speakers under age 30 in America today. As a community advocate, he has worked extensively with high school- and college-aged Latino youths, spreading his message of education, leadership, community activism and entrepreneurship. Information session: An information session called “Trails to Teaching,” being held Oct. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the College, 19351 W. Washington St. The session will include an overview of teacher preparation programs at CLC, guidelines for transfer, networking with CLC Education Faculty and other future teachers, a panel discussion and a Q & A session with currently practicing teachers from PreK to secondary. In addition, representatives of Illinois four-year transfer colleges and universities and the Illinois Regional Office of Education will be there to answer questions.
