Enforce the laws: Would there really be a need to raise property taxes if Waukegan would enforce the ordinances that they have on the books, such as loud music costing $300 per ticket? They have money, but they don’t want to hire cops yet, they want to raise our property taxes. ]]> Fri, 18 Apr 2014 02:45:28 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Costner irony: Do other area residents see the irony of the movie “Draft Day”? Kevin Costner plays a general manager of a professional sports team who will do whatever is necessary for his team to succeed. This compared to his real-life lack of involvement in letting his own Lake County Fielders team go down the tubes? ]]> Thu, 17 Apr 2014 02:40:26 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Cruel move: I don’t think removing cigarettes from soldiers fighting overseas makes any sense. It is hard enough for one to quit smoking under the most ideal situation. Removing cigarettes from the valiant men and women on the front lines is cruel. How often do you sneak a smoke, Mr. 0bama? ]]> Wed, 16 Apr 2014 02:45:16 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Hole in the wall: Regarding the article “Change for the better.” Zion needs to get the state police and the national guard to go through all of those Section 8 housing projects and arrest every thug that’s living in those dumps. ]]> Tue, 15 Apr 2014 02:40:29 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Kudos to athletes: Congratulations to North Chicago High School. You’ve made us all very proud. All the athletes in Lake County have conducted themselves as professionals and adults. I wish them all a bright future in the pearls of whatever road they may travel. Thank you so much, Lake County athletes. ]]> Mon, 14 Apr 2014 02:30:17 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Why the gas hike? I just received my bill from North Shore Gas. The last bill I received said the cost of natural gas per therm was going up from roughly 55 cents a therm to 88 cents a therm. Now on this bill, it says the rate is going up to $1.22 cents a therm. ]]> Sat, 12 Apr 2014 02:20:37 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Ice-fishing litter: I am a Gages Lake homeowner and am shocked to see ice fishermen leave several of their buckets on the ice to just fall into the lake as the lake thaws. Shame on you. ]]> Thu, 17 Apr 2014 13:57:32 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Kind young man: I would like to thank the young man at the Lovell Center for helping me when nobody else seemed to want to bother. I couldn’t locate my car because the valet had parked it and when I went to get it back, he was gone. So, this young man took the time and took me to the police station inside the building. Thank you so very much again. ]]> Thu, 10 Apr 2014 02:36:37 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Lost jobs: It’s interesting how Barbara Martin minimizes the loss of business office jobs at Vista Hospital. While the number of people being affected is much less than 33, Vista staff has mentioned 24 jobs lost. I’m sure it was a major catastrophe for those being terminated and their families. ]]> Wed, 09 Apr 2014 02:38:51 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Great job: Mayor Rockingham, the North Chicago Streets Department and the city workers all have done a super job of cleaning our streets during the great snow storms. Thank you and may the Lord bless you for all your hard work. ]]> Tue, 08 Apr 2014 02:28:36 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Deadbeat tenants: I‘m speaking as a former tenant and landlord. There are some lazy landlords and/or slumlords, but the majority of landlords are not lazy and are not slumlords. When you see properties not being kept cleaned or maintained, the majority of the time it’s because of the lazy deadbeat slum tenants who keep tearing up the property every time the landlord fixes it. ]]> Sun, 13 Apr 2014 06:15:59 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Loud stereo season: I just hope the Waukegan Police Department are going to be ready this summer. People aren’t going to tolerate blaring music. You can already hear people tuning up their car stereos making sure they’re ready to go. People who violate this ordinance should get a $300 ticket with a zero tolerance and no warning for loud music. ]]> Sat, 05 Apr 2014 02:16:06 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Stay in Wisconsin: This is regarding the letter to the editor, “Won’t be back.” Well, Mr. McCormick of Union Grove, Wis., you can just stay in Wisconsin. You received a $60 ticket because you didn’t see the cop. You didn’t see the cop because you were yakking on your phone. What if someone was barreling down the road in the wrong lane and you weren’t paying attention? Turn off your phone and drive. You Wisconsin people have enough problems with driving without having a cellphone in your hand. ]]> Fri, 04 Apr 2014 02:39:15 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Grateful for kindness: The five women members of American Legion 1122 who had their meeting at Emily’s Restaurant recently are grateful to an unknown diner who paid for our lunch. She had expressed her thanks for our service in WWII and Vietnam, then did this. What a nice thing to do. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. We wish you a happy life. ]]> Thu, 03 Apr 2014 02:36:48 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

Cellphone dangers: Yahoo to Illinois for passing a law against driving while using a handheld phone and to the police that gave the Wisconsin man a ticket. He must have been under a rock and has not heard that it is just as dangerous to talk on the phone as to drive while drunk. ]]> Wed, 02 Apr 2014 02:37:36 -0500 <![CDATA[ Talk of the County ]]>

The real issue: What is the number one reason people form a company or business? Could it be to make money? Or is it to work under conditions based on your religious beliefs? ]]> Tue, 01 Apr 2014 02:36:05 -0500
