The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events with the Vernon Hills Capitals ice-hockey team from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The event will be held at Glacier Ice Arena on Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hill (southwest of Hawthorn mall).
Six players, along with other volunteers, will shave their heads in solidarity for kids with cancer and raise money for life-saving childhood cancer research.
As part of the event, the will host the West Bend Bombers in a game scheduled to start shortly after noon.
The Capitals and Bombers are members of the Great Lakes Hockey League, a USA Hockey- sanctioned men’s amateur-elite hockey league.
The six players will take part in the head-shaving portion of the event at the conclusion of the game, while still in full uniform.
The event will also feature silent-auction items from the Chicago Bears, Bulls, Sky, White Sox and Wolves.
Additional items from Six Flags Great America, Extended Stay Hotels and Tastefully Simple will also be available for silent auction.
Various raffle items from Vernon Hills businesses have also been donated to raise additional funds for childhood cancer research.
