Lakes 6, Wauconda 0: The Eagles (6-1 overall, 1-0 NSC Prairie) got a hat trick from Trevor Ray, who now is averaging a goal a game. Joey Salvino, Tom Czyberski and Caleb Arnwine also scored to back the shutout keeping of Trevor’s younger brother, junior Kevin Ray. Assists on goals went to Arnwine, Rich Dalat, Savino, Lucas Isvanek, Alex Langbein and Mark Garritt. Lakes has a must-win at Round Lake on Thursday night, with the winner a huge favorite to win the division title.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Mundelein 21, Vernon Hills 35: The Mustangs got a 1-2-3-4 finish from Ellie Palacios (19:58 for 3 miles), Claire Naughton, Kelsey Loar and Stephanie Johnson.
Lake Zurich 16, Wauconda 47: At Lakewood, the Bears’ Nicole Syverson won the 3.1-mile race in 20:29, 16 seconds ahead of teammate Meaghan Gelina. Wauconda’s best was Lexi Brunn, fifth, in 21:51.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Vernon Hills 27, Mundelein 30: Kyle Whitney of Vernon Hills won the three-mile race in 16:45. He team hero was Rob Williams, whose ninth-place finish provided the margin of the team win.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Grant def. North Chicago 25-5, 25-7: Sisters Alissa and Ashley Mathis served well for the winners (1-0 in the NSC Prairie.
Vernon Hills def. Round Lake 25-19, 25-20: The Cougars (4-5 overall, 1-0 NSC Prairie) got 10 kills from Jenn Claussen and seven from Shannon Nugent.
Lake Zurich def. Warren 25-16, 24-26, 25-12: The Bears are 1-0 in the NSC Lake and 5-4 overall. Mallory Parson (10 kills, 4 aces) and Layne Self (8 kills, 5 aces) led the winners.
Lakes def. Wauconda 25-15, 25-21: The Eagles opened NSC Prairie play with a quality win over a dangerous opponent.
