If anything’s bigger than this game, it’s food drive

Friday night’s North Suburban Conference Lake Division showdown between powerhouses Stevenson and host Libertyville has all the makings of a classic.
The teams both are very good, seem evenly matched, and the winner will take an important early step toward winning the division title.
That said, there’s not a person in Libertyville who would object if the football game took a back seat to the pre-game food drive that’s being organized by the Wildcat football program.
This is important stuff, with everything collected being given to the Libertyville Township Pantry.
Fans should look for the blue pickup truck with the “Food Drive/Personal Items” sign by the entrance to the field.
Items needed include laundry and dish soap, cleaning products, garbage bags, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, bath soap, deodorant, diapers, wipes, etc.
Then, of course, there are the food staples: canned meats, canned vegetables and fruits, jams, peanut butter, cereal, jello, pudding, powered milk, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, Kleenex, etc.
In a perfect world, the big news in Libertyville would be a football victory, and the bigger news would be an overwhelming response to support the Libertyville Township Pantry.
