Young skateboarders from throughout the county are welcome to compete Saturday in the eighth annual John Sheppard Skateboard Contest.
The event will be held at 1 p.m. at Blair Park in Lake Bluff. The park is located next to Lake Bluff Golf Course. It’s on Washington Street, off Green Bay Road and a mile north of Route 176.
If it rains, the tournament will be held Sunday at 1.
Sign-in will be at noon and this is for skateboarders age 18-under. Signed waivers are required and are available at www.lakebluffparks.org. There will be music, food and prizes.
This contest is organized each year to honor the memory and celebrate John Sheppard Jr.’s love of skateboarding.
In addition to remembering John, it provides young skaters a fun afternoon, and supports improvements to the skatepark through selling snacks and T-shirts, and received donations.
