State tournament: Lake Forest’s bid for a three-peat as team champion probably went by the boards on Friday, as Hinsdale Central took the lead at the halfway point with a 306 total. Lake Forest is at 319, but is in ninth place with 18 holes still to play. In the individual competition, Deerfield’s Ian Kelsey fired a 71 on Friday and is tied for first at the halfway point. Reed Aren of Stevenson shot a 76 and was tied for 14th.
State tournament: Stevenson senior Stephanie Miller shot a 1-under 71 and has a one-shot lead at the halfway point of the tournament. She also won the state title two years ago. In the team scoring, New Trier is in first place with a 313 score. Zion-Benton junior Morgan Kukla shot a 79 and is tied for 16th with 18 holes to go.
Stevenson def. Mundelein 25-20, 25-16: The Patriots finished 4-2 in the North Suburban Lake, and are an area-best 26-3 overall, with losses to New Trier, Libertyville and Lake Zurich.
Wauconda def. Antioch 25-17, 27-25: Red-hot Wauconda is 16-6 overall and finished 4-2 in the NSC Prairie. Megan Tallman had 9 kills, 9 digs, 6 assists and 2 aces in the win.
