Magical 800 barrier broken at Bertrand Lanes

Updated: December 17, 2012 1:58AM

Jason Tanner of Waukegan started like a champ and finished with a flurry to crack the magical 800 barrier in league bowling action recently at Bertrand Lanes in Waukegan.

And in between, he strung together 19 strikes.

Competing in the Thursday Elks League, he started his night with a an open frame and a pair of spares — mediocre by his standards.

But he then struck on his next 19 shots — finishing Game 1 with nine in a row for a 257 score, and then striking in the first 10 frames of Game 2 before a nine-count spare gave him a 289 game.

Then, in Game 3, he finished with four straight strikes to roll another 257 and finish the night with an 803.

For the season, Tanner leads the Elks League with a 214 average. George Lawrence is second at 205.
