Running back Sean Lynch’s second touchdown of the game came on an eight-yard run with 5:35 left that gave visiting Lake Zurich a 17-13 win over Warren on Friday in the North Suburban Conference Lake Division finale for both teams.
The win gave the Bears a share of the division title with Stevenson in David Proffitt’s first year as Lake Zurich coach.
Warren finished 5-4 and, like Lake Zurich, will be in the playoffs.
First-round opponents will be announced tonight.
Lake Zurich scored the game’s first 10 points.
With 9:59 left in the second quarter, A.J. Prittschuh hit a 32-yard field goal.
Then, with 5:08 to go before the break, Lynch raced 31 yards to the house for a 10-0 lead.
Warren got within 10-6 before halftime on Connor Iwema’s two-yard run TD run, and the Devils then took the lead 13-10 when Iwema capped a 90-yard drive with a three-yard TD run with 30 seconds to go in the third period.
“It’s important to win the conference,” said Proffitt. “Our young men have really stepped up with all the injuries have occurred.
“I’m very proud of this group of kids. Warren came out to play tonight, but our defense stopped them when we needed to and we were able to prevail.”
The Bears were led by Connor Schrader (23 carries, 111 yards) and Lynch (9 carries, 90 yards).
Devonte Wilcox carried 17 times for 76 yards for Warren.
