A tally by Timmy Peiper in the third minute and another by Daniel Szczepanek shortly thereafter staked Warren to an early lead, and the Blue Devils went on to dump highly regarded Rockford Boylan 4-1 on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 3A Rockford Auburn Sectional boys soccer tournament.
The Blue Devils will face Barrington in a danger game Friday for the sectional title and a spot in the Round of 8 Barrington Supersectional next Tuesday against either St. Charles East or Elgin Larkin.
It marked the second straight year Warren took out Boylan in the playoffs. That win propelled the Devils to a Final Four berth at state.
Libertyville beat Prospect 2-1 and defensive-minded Stevenson blanked Palatine Fremd 1-0 in Tuesday’s semifinals to set up a Friday night regional title matchup (6:30) between North Suburban Conference Lake Division powers.
The teams played during the regular season and tied. Libertyville has more firepower, but Stevenson has the best back line/goalkeeping in the county.
