Solid season for seventh-grade team

The seventh-grade girls volleyball team at Millburn Middle School in Lindenhurst recently completed its season, finishing third in the Lakeside Conference regular season and third in the postseason tournament.
During the regular season, the Cougars went 7-2 in league matches and 9-4 overall.
In the tournament, they went 3-1 in pool play, beating Neal from North Chicago, Lake Bluff Middle, and Deer Path Middle from Lake Forest, and losing to Highland from Libertyville.
That finish earned the girls a berth in the semifinals where they lost in three games to Oak Grove. In the third-place match, they beat Sandburg from Mundelein 30-28 in Game 3.
Members of Millburn’s team included Anna Bending, Alyssa Bombicino, Gretchen Bond, Kaitlyn Clay, Hannah Gallo, Kelsey Kalous, Abbie Korjenek, Grace Webster, Jessica Weinberg, Kate Weyhrich, Nina Willems and Kelly Zeason.
The girls were coached by Kevin Yost.
There used to be two K-8 schools — Millburn West and Millburn Central — in the district, but now there’s a K-5 school and a 6-8 school, all under the umbrella name “Millburn.
