One intrasquad scrimmage does not a college basketball season make.
But when the Fighting Illini held their annual Orange/Blue intrasquad game this week at the Assembly Hall, the starting point guard for Illinois’ top unit was Warren High School grad Brandon Paul.
Now a senior at Illinois, Paul has been a shooting guard throughout his college career. His single-game high in scoring is 43 points.
In the scrimmage, Paul was at the point, with D.J. Richardson playing the “2” guard spot.
Illinois will play an exhibition game on Saturday against Lewis, an NCAA Division 2 program located near Joliet.
John Groce is the first-year Illinois coach.
