Students from Cook’s dominate in Wisconsin

Ten students from Gerry Cook’s Professional Martial Arts studio in Waukegan earned a total of 17 trophies at the National Sport Association Nationals that were held recently in Madison, Wis.
Award winners from Cook’s Studio included:
■ Dominic “Ninja” Delorme of Gurnee, 4th in form and 1st in sparring.
■ Richard Neiper from Winthrop Harbor, Black Belt champ and 2nd in sparring.
■ Mike Mendez from Waukegan, 4th in form and 2nd in sparring.
■ Nestor Alonso from Waukegan, 2nd in form and 1st in sparring.
■ Cory Pollard from Zion, 1st in form and 1st in sparring.
■ Nadine Burleson from Waukegan, 2nd in form and 1st in sparring.
■ Christa Mendoza, 2nd in sparring.
■ J.C. Hawkins from Zion was 2nd in forms and 2nd in sparring.
■ Julian Rivera from Waukegan, 1st in sparring.
■ Marco Mojica, 1st in sparring.
All told, Cook’s talented team had seven first-place finishes, six seconds, and three fourths.
