The Beach Park Bears youth football program wrapped up a very successful season, with two of the teams winning division titles in the North West Youth Football League.
The championship teams were the Pac 10 Orange team coached by Kevin Williams and the Pac 10 Blue No. 1 team coached by Rae Mitchell.
The Bears play in a league in which teams are designated by colors rather than by words such as “lightweight” and “heavyweight.” The concept is the same.
The Pac 10 Orange team finished its season 8-2, beating the Palatine Panthers 14-6 in the title matchup.
The Pac 10 Blue No. 1 team finished the season 11-0, beating the Arlington Heights Cowboys 33-13 in the finals.
The Bears’ Big 10 Red team, coached by Shaun Totulis, lost to Schaumburg in the Championship game, 15-14 at Olympic Park in Schaumburg and finished 9-2.
The Pac 10 Blue No. 2 team, coached by Marco Montejano, lost 8-0 to a team from Arlington Heights in its championship game and finished 8-3.
The Bears’ “big guys” — eighth-graders — were coached by youth football coaching legend Denny Porter and finished 5-4.
The Big 10 Orange team, coached by Tyrone Davidson, finished 4-6.
The Big 10 Green team, coached by Christopher Harper, finished 3-6.
