Several area teams won titles, as The Chicagoland Youth Football League wrapped up an exciting season with Championship Weekend.
In this league, there were three champs crowned in each of the five weight/age divisions, with teams divided based on the number of players involved in the program.
The advanced/older/experienced players competed in the Sunday (Big Ten) program, and four area teams walked off the field last weekend as champs.
In the Heavyweight Division (eighth-graders), Grayslake’s Colts and Zion-Benton’s Jr. Zee-Bees each won titles.
In the Featherweight Division, Waukegan’s Jr. Bulldogs were champs.
In the Bantam Division (little guys), Wauconda’s team won a title.
Playing in championship games but falling short were Mundelein’s Heavyweights, Wauconda’s Heavyweights, Zion-Benton’s Lightweights, Mundelein’s Middleweights, Waukegan’s Middleweights, Waukegan’s Bantams, Libertyville’s Bantams, Grayslake’s Bantams, Zion-Benton’s Bantams and Lake Villa’s Bantams.
In addition to the Sunday program, there also were title games in the Saturday program.
The area champs on Saturday were Warren Blue in the Featherweight Division, and Zion-Benton in the Bantam Division.
Zion beat Lake Villa White 13-12 in overtime in the Saturday Bantam final.
