College of Lake County women’s cross country runners Stefani Canadzic (Grayslake Central High School graduate) and Lauren Hallendorff (Vernon Hills) placed 235th and 236th respectively at the NJCAA Division 1 National Cross Country Meet.
The meet was hosted by Rend Lake College in the southern portion of Illinois last weekend.
More than 350 qualifiers from around the country competed in the meet. The team title went to Iowa Central Community College.
The race was held under unseasonably warm and windy conditions on the rolling hills of Rend Lake Golf Course.
“I could not be more proud of our ladies,” said CLC coach Steve Blomgren. “These two have worked hard together since the first of August and improved from meet to meet. It was a challenge for them dealing with the warm temperature after running these last few weeks in the cold.”
Hallendorff is a sophomore so this was her last meet with CLC. Canadzic will be back next year. The Lancers didn’t have enough female runners for a full team this year.
“ We will miss Lauren next season when she transfers to a four-year school, “ said Blomgren, “but another college will be fortunate to have her on their team. Stefani, and her new running style, will give us someone to build around for next year. We have no doubt that lake county high schools have the kind of runners we need to produce a nationally ranked team next year and that is our goal.”
