PREP NOTES
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Carmel 48, Highland Park 47: At the Mundelein tourney, Carmel’s victory moved the Corsairs to 1-1 while the loss dropped the Giants to 0-2. Play will continue Wednesday in the six-team, round-robin tourney with Grant playing Highland Park at 4:30, Carmel facing Grayslake North at 6, and Prairie Ridge playing Mundelein at 7:30.
Loyola 44, Warren 26: This was played at Loyola on Tuesday but was part of the New Trier tournament. It was the season opener for both teams.
Antioch 57, Richmond 45: The Sequoits went on the road for their season opener and came away with an impressive victory.
Vernon Hills 68, Maine East 31: The powerhouse Cougars opened play in their own tournament on Monday with the first of many lopsided wins this year. Meri Bennett-Swanson, who is headed to DePaul, led with 16 points and Lauren Webb had 13.
BOYS BOWLING
Vernon Hills 2,989, Stevenson 2,836: Senior Eric Swanson was on quite a roll, as he had a 267 game and 681 series to lead the Cougars to victory.
Lake Zurich 3,201, Libertyville 3,164: Mike Schmitt had a 258 game and whopping 739 series for the Bears as they put up a big number in this win.
