Beach Park teenager earns coveted Black Belt ranking

Eugene Gross of Beach Park recently became a Black Belt while studying under area martial arts grand master and 8th degree Black Belt Gerry Cook.
The 18-year-old Gross recently graduated from Zion-Benton High School.
Gross is a two-time national champion in the martial arts.
Gross started his training 12 years ago under Cook and steadily progressed through the various belt colors.
When he earned his Black Belt, he became the 402nd student who studied under Cook to earn the coveted honor.
Gross hopes to have a career in the Air Force and compete on the Air Force’s national Tae Kwon Do team.
Cook now has 11 Black Belts on staff at Gerry Cook’s Professional Martial Arts studio in Waukegan.
The studio is located on Lewis Avenue, just south of Sunset on the north side of Waukegan.
