Knights win Mundelein tournament

Kendall Detweiler bombed home five 3-pointers and Emily Dugan came off the bench and hit three more as Grayslake North beat Grant 64-61 on Saturday to complete a 5-0 week and win the season-opening prep girls basketball tournament hosted by Mundelein.

The Knights beat Highland Park, Mundelein, Carmel, Prairie Ridge and Grant over a six-day span.

In Saturday’s win, Grayslake North was 20-of-39 from the foul line while Grant was 15-of-18.

Detweiler led Grayslake with 23 points, while Dugan had 11 and Brittney Thibeaux 10.

Taylor Rossi had 22 points and Kaylie Kanzler 14 for Grant.

Vernon Hills 45, Woodstock North 36: Sydney Smith had 15 points as Vernon Hills improved to 3-0 in its own season-opening tourney. The Cougars will play Lake Forest Academy on Monday at 4:30.

Maine South 52, Grayslake Central 25: The Rams (1-1) didn’t score in the first quarter and trailed 32-4 at halftime at the Buffalo Grove tourney.

Lake Forest 36, Glenbrook North 35: Grace Torkelson scored the game-winning basket with 13 seconds left, with the assist going to Brooke Green.

Buffalo Grove 48, Libertyville 44: The Cats (0-2) got 10 points from Sydney Mudd and played well in defeat.
