When high school football players on the 14 teams in the North Suburban Conference take the field next fall, they’ll have a hard act to follow.

The 2012 season was one of the league’s most successful ever, as the league served notice that it deserves recognition as one of the state’s best loops.

Nine of the league’s 14 teams qualified for the playoffs — including five from the brutally difficult Lake Division (big schools).

Division champions were Lakes in the Prairie Division, and Lake Zurich and Stevenson in the Lake Division.

In postseason play, Lake Zurich reached the semifinals of the Class 7A playoffs and Lake Forest reached the semifinals in Class 6A.

Looking ahead to next year, 18 of the 62 all-conference players will be back, including Stevenson QB Willie Borbon and Lakes QB T.J. Edwards.

Plus, most of North Chicago’s top players return.
