BOYS BASKETBALL
Lake Forest 57, Glenbrook North 52: It was a battle of the bigs Friday in Skokie, with Lake Forest’s 6-9 Sam Downey matching up against Glenbrook North’s 6-8 Andrew McAuliffe. Downey had a lot more help than McAuliffe did, and that tipped the scales the Scouts’ way at the Niles West Thanksgiving Tournament. Downey, a Yale recruit, scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Even Boudreaux added 14 points and nine rebounds. Guard Carter Bass had 15 points. Lake Forest is 4-0.
Carmel 57, McHenry 51: Carmel improved to 2-0 in the Crystal Lake tourney be beating McHenry 57-51.
Zion-Benton 71, Evanston 48: The Zee-Bees are 4-0 in the Lane Tech tourney and will play 4-0 Notre Dame for the title at 7 on Saturday. You can watch the game live on your computer on highschoolcube.com.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Maine South 54, Libertyville 42: The Cats played state-power Maine South tough, getting outscored 15-6 in the fourth quarter to let the game get away. Dana Kym (11 points), Becky Diechl (7), Jessica Van Roeyen (7), Melissa Neutz (6) and Haley Hoeksel (5) led the Libertyville attack.
Grayslake Central 50, Westinghouse 44 (2ot): The Rams rallied from 11 down in the fourth quarter and won in double-overtime. Lauen Spalding hit a jumper at the fourth-quarter buzzer to tie it, and then hi a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force a second OT. She finished with 16 points.
Antioch 64, Taft 48: The Sequoits (4-1 overall) bombed the Chicago Public League foe as Megan Borries hit seven 3-balls and scored a career-high 29 points.
WRESTLING
Tournament at Antioch: The host Sequoits and Deerfield both went 5-0 in dual meets to tie for first in this 10-team Ted DeRousse Invite.
