Adrian Deere scored on a layup off an inbounds pass with five seconds left to give Warren a 58-56 win over Uplift of Chicago on Day 4 of the Mundelein/Warren season-opening boys basketball tournament.
The Devils (2-2) will play Barrington at 4:30 on Saturday. Uplift is 1-3.
Warren led 44-35 after three quarters, but Uplift pulled even at 56-56 on a 3-pointer by Jarron Davis with 58 seconds left.
Warren held for a final shot, and after a non-shooting foul with six seconds left, Aarias Austin inbounded to Deere, who was wide open under the basket. Uplift didn’t get a shot off in the closing seconds.
“We played passively defensively and timidly on offense (in the fourth quarter),” said first-year coach Ryan Webber. “We showed our inexperience today. There’s no substitute for game play (Warren has no returning starters.).
“For three quarters, we showed some progress on offense,” the coach added. “We’re a work in progress.”
Four Devils scored in double figures: Dre Von Hill (15), Deere (13), Eric Gillespie (12) and Shayne White (10).
