Lakes scored the first 10 points of the second quarter, and outscored Waukegan 23-12 in the period to break the game open and went on to crush the Bulldogs 71-50 on Saturday in the final round of the Mundelein/Warren season-opening boys basketball tournament.
Both teams finished 3-2 in the eight team event.
Direll Clark had 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, Jake Kohler 15, and Justin Bergeron 13 for the Eagles.
Clark and Kohler made the all-tournament team.
Jordan Johnson had 14 points for Waukegan, Devonte Taylor 11 and Jerome Davis 10. Johnson and Davis were all-tourney picks.
“The kids were focused today. They wanted to prove they belonged in the conversation with the top teams,” said Lakes coach Chris Snyder. “This was the closest to a complete game we’ve played.”
Lakes led 17-13 after a quarter, and 40-25 at halftime. In the second half, Waukegan never got the lead to single digits.
Waukegan will return to action on Tuesday night at Deerfield.
Lakes will host Wauconda on Friday in North Suburban Prairie action.
