The Lindenhurst Area Soccer Club’s Comets girls travel program recently completed its final season, as the players will be on high school teams in the spring and then many will head off to college.

The team was formed in the summer of 2004 when the girls were playing at the under-10 level.

Over the years, 54 girls have represented the Comets. They have played in 335 games and compiled a record of 171-112-52.

The Comets’ run included nine season championships and 14 second-place finishes —including one this fall.

Paige Jespersen was the all-time leading goal scorer with 83. Sarah Klosterman had 79 and Kelsey Borders finished with 78.

The Gold Comets finished their fall season 6-6-2.

The Blue Comets played in the Illinois Women’s Soccer League’s “CN” Division this fall and went 8-0-2.

Other members of the Comets this season included Jaclyn Brennan, Ellie Gallo, Haley Simpson, Lizzie Koptik, Mikaela Brown, Nicole Mogged, Meghan Busky, Haley Church, Courtni France, Tatiana Katres, Kelsey Schwab, Stephanie Schwab, Sarina Umlauf, Megan Soderlund, Gina Pacenti, Katie Brinkman, Katie Rauch, Alexa Mann, Melissa Richter, Brittany Thomas, Catie Lindquist, Libby Lindquist, Bianca Mahoney, Cheyenne Grant, Kara Kibitlewski, Vanessa Foreman and Amy Foster.

Coaches for the final season included Jack Klosterman, Martin Simpson, Mike Gallo and Mark Lindquist.

The girls will represent five area high schools this spring.

Mike Gallo, who has gone the distance as a coach with the Comets program, tipped his cap to the parents of all the players who were part of the program.

“A special ‘thank you’ goes out to the parents who have sat through over 20,000 minutes of play, including bitter cold and heavy rain,” he said.
