As things turned out, the big stage at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates wasn’t too big for these fifth-grade dynamos.
In fact, it was just right.
Bringing their “A” game to the stage at exactly the right moment, the Warren Township Cheer & Pom program’s Junior Pom Squad (fifth-graders) won its level of competition at the Illinois Recreation Cheerleading Association-sanctioned state meet that was held recently.
Warren Township Cheer & Poms is a competitive program, but it also cheers on weekends for the Warren Blue Demons youth football program.
The season starts with practices in the summer and just wrapped up.
Head coach of the Junior Poms group was Laurie Harrison, and working with her was Cristina Cram.
Harrison called the girls’ accomplishment “amazing.”
“They worked so hard since the end of July and won first place in all four of our competitions,” she said.
To qualify for state, the Warren girls had to earn a qualifying score during one of its three regular-season meet.
