Waukegan High School graduate Mar’quone Edmonds of the University of Indianapolis was named to the NCAA Division 2 All-America Team that was chosen by the Beyond Sports Network.
Edmonds broke nearly every UIndy receiving record in 2012. The 6-2, 211-pound receiver amassed 99 catches for 1,335 yards and 17 touchdowns, all good for single-season school records.
Also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, the senior finished his college career as the program’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs.
He helped UIndy to its first-ever 10-win season and first-ever NCAA Division 2 playoff berth. The Greyhounds defeated Midwestern State 31-14 in the first round of the playoffs before falling at top-ranked Colorado State-Pueblo.
At Waukegan High, Edmonds was a triple-threat, as he played wide receiver on offense, defensive back on defense and also returned kicks/punts.
He was on the last Waukegan team to post a winning season — 5-4 under then-coach Pat Jennings.
