Highland Park 49, Deerfield 31: The visiting Giants dominated against their intradistrict rival on the road, showing flashes that they’ve turned the season around. Highland Park is now 4-7.
Stevenson 59, Lake Forest 53: The Patriots went on the road and posted a quality North Suburban Conference Lake Division win. Both teams are 2-2 in the division, chasing Zion-Benton and Mundelein.
Stevenson 53, Mundelein 44: Stevenson coach Tom Dineen reached a milestone Tuesday night by picking up his 750th career victory, as his Patriots held on to beat visiting Mundelein, in a North Suburban Conference Lake Division matchup. Dineen racked up 677 of those wins during a 28-year span at Buffalo Grove (677-229) — from 1980-2008 — and has now tallied 73 more in his three-plus seasons at Stevenson (73-29). His overall career record now stands at 750-258, meaning he’s been victorious in 74.4 percent of the games he’s coached in. Only Dorothy Gaters’ 947 victories from 1975-2011 at Marshall are ahead of Dineen’s 750. Win number 750 didn’t come easily. Stevenson (8-4, 5-1 NSC Lake) only trailed briefly in the game’s first few minutes, but once they rallied, their lead was never more than six points until late in the third quarter. That’s when the Patriots used a 12-2 run during the final three minutes of the period, and took a 44-30 lead into the fourth quarter, fueled by senior guard Kari Moffat’s game-high 18 points and seven assists. However, Mundelein (2-8, 2-4) forced the Patriots to commit 25 turnovers. — Tim Froehlig
