Perhaps now, after 31 years as a martial-arts instructor, Gerry Cook really has seen it all.
An instructor and owner of Gerry Cook’s Professional Martial Arts studio in Waukegan, Cook has seen just about everything there is to see in his sport.
But until recently, he hadn’t seen this:
Keith Witcraft and his son Alec Witcraft of Winthrop Harbor both completed their instruction and both earned black belts in martial arts — the first father/son to earn the highest-color belt in the sport while studying under Cook.
The two have been students for seven years.
“It is nice to see how they motivate each other and help each other get better,” said Cook. “I’m very proud of Keith and Alec. They always help me with the kids and are good role models.
“Keith is good for Alec and Alec is good with the little kids. Keith and Alec will go far in martial arts because they are dedicated. They both always try to improve and never give up.
