Boys basketball
Highland Park 60, Elk Grove 37: The Giants (8-9) completed a weekend sweep with an easy non-conference win. Luke Norica had 13 points in the win. Highland Park has won three straight.
North Chicago 79, Libertyville 61: The “Big 3” of JaVairius Amos-Mays (26 points, 10 rebounds), JayQuan McCloud (18 and 8) and Big Kurt Hall (16 and 14) combined for 60 points and 32 rebounds. North Chicago is 16-1.
Stevenson 73, Vernon Hills 55: Jalen Brunson had 21 points to lead the Patriots. Stephen Curry scored 20 for the Cougars.
Girls basketball
Grayslake North 48, CL Central 43: The Knights are 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the Fox Valley Fox. Brittney Thibeaux had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win, and Jordyn Bowen added 14 points.
Zion-Benton 56, Libertyville 51: The Bees are unbeaten in the NSC Lake, holding off improving Libertyville. Mia Yarbrough had 18 points, Syerra Cunningham 22 and Sam Rodriguez nine for the Bees. Olivia Mayer had 13 for the Cats.
Grayslake Central 43, Woodstock North 34: The Rams are now 5-1 in the Fox Valley Fox, one game behind Grayslake North. Morgan Dahlstrom had a dozen points for the winners.
Grant 41, Wauconda 36: This North Suburban Prairie battle of Bulldogs went to Grant.
Loyola 56, Waukegan 44: The Bulldogs played a quality foe tough. A day earlier, the Dogs lost 42-38 to Niles West in overtime. Kylah Collins had 23 points and 10 rebounds for Waukegan.
Trinity 64, Vernon Hills 41: Big-school power handed Vernon Hills its second loss this week. Sydney Smith had 17 points for the Cougars.
North Chicago 60, Antioch 53: The Hawks outscored Antioch 24-5 in the second quarter and stunned the Sequoits in NSC Prairie play. Dara Tanner had 18 points in the win. Alex Fracek scored 14 for the losers. She also had 14 rebounds.
Cheerleading
Grayslake North Invitational: It was a tough day at the office for area teams at this prestigious event. In the big-school division, Providence Catholic dominated with a 94.06 score. Lake Zurich was sixth (87.5), and Grayslake North was 10th (83.9). In the coed division, Mascoutah won with 91.95. Grant was fourth with 88.35 and Mundelein was ninth with 84.2. In the smaller-school division, Oak Forest won with 89.13, and Wauconda was third (85.65), Grayslake Central eighth (79.43) and North Chicago 10th (68.68).
Wrestling
Lakes goes 3-0: The Lakes Eagles beat Oak Lawn 49-27, Prairie Ridge 55-15 and Highland Park 63-6 in the Eagles’ own quad and are 11-8 in duals. This assures the first winning season in school history.
