North Chicago held off Chicago Public League power Farragut 69-65 on Sunday night on Day 2 of the Martlin Luther King Weekend prep basketball shoootout at Young High School in Chicago.
The Warhawks (19-1) will play south suburban power Thornton Fractional North at 2 this afternoon on the final day of the three-day event.
Monday’s game against TF North will be the fourth in four days for North Chicago and Tuesday’s game at Antioch will complete a string of five games in five days. So far, the team is 3-0 in this sequence of games.
Farragut lost to state superpower Young 77-63 on Friday and the game on Sunday was a back-and-forth affair.
North Chicago eventually nailed it down at the free-throw line.
JaVairius Amos-Mays led the winners with 25 points and Emmanuel January came off the bench and scored 20. North Chicago played without starting power forward Jarrod Coleman (concussion), but Travaris Knox and Joseph Thomas filled in admirably. Earlier this season, North Chicago also lost its top point guards, but the team is getting key contributions off the bench.
