Waukegan 75, East Aurora 48: Waukegan raced out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back in improving to 12-8 on the season. “We came out of the gate (this year) and thought we’d be a pressure team but soon found out that’s not our forte,” said Waukegan coach Ron Ashlaw. “We made a philosophical change to go back to our roots and be good in the halfcourt defense. We put a ton of emphasis on stops, giving up no easy looks and no penetration and this is the culmination of that.” Senior Davonte Taylor led the visitors with 18 points and 12 rebounds, 6-foot-6 junior Jerome Davis added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Jordan Johnson added 15 points. East Aurora’s 3-15.
Lakes 64, Antioch 29: The Eagles got 16 points from Justin Bergeron while Tyler Innis had 14 for Antioch. Lakes is chasing North Chicago in the NSC Prairie and gets them at home next month.
Palatine Fremd 35, Carmel 30: A three-point second quarter was too much for the Corsairs to overcome. They face Lakes on Tuesday.
Warren 63, Mundelein 60: Aarias Austin hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Blue Devils a dramatic win. For Mundelein, Robert Knar made it to the scorer’s table in the final seconds though he didn’t appear and with Mundelein’s next game not until Feb. 9 against Zion-Benton, he figures to be on the court again for that contest.
Lake Zurich 55, Libertyville 45: The Bears pulled away in the second half to win in the NSC Lake.
