Six from Cook’s studio win awards

Six members of Gerry Cook’s Professional Martial Arts studio earned a total of nine awards at the Northwoods Karate Championships that were held recently in Racine.
Cook’s studio is based on the north side of Waukegan.
The six award winners were:
■ Harley Yoder of Gurnee was first in form.
■ Cory Pollard of Zion was first in sparring and first in form.
■ Marco Mojica of Waukegan was first in sparring.
■ Richard Neiper, a black belt from Winthrop Harbor, was first in sparring and first in form.
■ Kevin Akins of Zion was third in form.
■ Braden Lex of Beach Park was first in form and first in sparring.
The next tournament is March 10 in Madison, Wis. It’s the Regional Karate/Take Kwon Do Championships.
Cook is a grandmaster in martial arts and is an eighth-degree black belt.
His studio is located on Lewis Avenue, just south of Sunset in Waukegan.
