Ryan Thorsen, a 2009 graduate of Grant High School, is doing very well pitching at Concordia University in Chicago, a perennial NCAA Division 3 powerhouse.
In 2010, as a freshman, he had a 4-1 record as the No. 3 starter on a team that went 35-8 and won the conference title and was ranked in the top 20 nationally most of the year.
He missed the 2011 season with Tommy John surgery, but bounced back last spring.
In 2012, he was the staff ace and team captain, and posted a 6-2 record with a 1.71 ERA and led the team to a second-place finish in conference and at large berth in the Division 3 tourney.
This year, the team is getting ready to embark on its annual spring trip to Arizona, where he again will be the staff ace starter and team captain on a team that should once again be ranked nationally.
He received a four-year scholarship to Concordia for academics and has a 3.8 GPA.
