When the calendar turns at this time of year, March Madness always is in the air, with longtime prep basketball fans making plans for their Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday trips to the Dog Pound for the Waukegan Sectional.
The March Madness sectional always is preceded by another Waukegan High School tradition — the Waukegan High School Booster Club Auction.
Always held on the Saturday before sectional week, the 17th annual event is set for this Saturday at the Lake County Sports Center (formerly the Oakwood Racket Club).
The Center is located at 351 Oakwood (from the intersection of Grand Ave. and Green Bay Road, Oakwood is one block west of Green Bay and you can only turn south).
The annual event is the largest fund-raiser for Waukegan High School athletics and also benefits the high school’s music programs.
The fund-raiser, which is scheduled to run from 6-10;30 p.m., includes many raffles, silent and live auctions with more than 300 items, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.
Tickets are $15 at the door.
A purchased ticket is automatically entered into a drawing for a $500 prize (winner need not be present).
