BMX event will fund track improvements in Waukegan

The Waukegan BMX Parents Association is holding its inaugural Bowling Extravaganza fund-raiser on Saturday at Bertrand Lanes on Washington Street in Waukegan.
Cost will be $15 per person and it includes two games of bowling, shoe rental, two raffle tickets and pizza and pop, once bowling is completed.
Check in begins at noon and bowling begins at 1.
All proceeds raised will go directly to track improvements.
The Waukegan BMX Parents Association is a non-profit organization that is responsible for organizing and operating the day-to-day functions, maintenance and race events at the Waukegan BMX track located at 2785 Yorkhouse Rd., Waukegan.
While the track is affiliated with the Waukegan Park District, the parents association is a separate entity.
The majority of the cost required to operate and maintain the track is the responsibility of the parents association.
The group consists of parents and racers who love the sport and donate their time and efforts to help run a successful BMX program where riders of all ages participate.
The track is the only BMX facility in Lake County and is affiliated and sanctioned by USA BMX, the leader in BMX in the United States.
The sport is increasing in popularity because it became an Olympic event in 2008.
