Rick Missing was named recipient of the Friends of the Park Award for 2013 by the Grayslake Park District’s board of commissioners recently.
The award is presented annually to an individual or group that has shown outstanding voluntary service, dedication and support to the parks and recreation system of the Grayslake Community Park District.
Missing has been a volunteer youth basketball coach for the park district for 13 years, coaching both boys and girls.
He stated during his awards presentation that even though he no longer has a child in the program, he continues to coach due to his love and passion for the sport and greatly enjoys working with children and teaching them the game. He also stated that it is his way to give back to his community.
“The park district is very fortunate to have Rick be a part of our team of volunteer coaches and we cannot thank him enough for his years of dedication to the youth of our community. It is people like Rick who make our park district such a success,” Jeff Nehila, executive director.
The award was presented to Missing at the park district’s July board meeting where the entire board thanked him for his time, energy and dedication to the Grayslake Park District.
